Villa Company Wimco Suggests Private Villa Holidays Beyond Tuscany/Umbria in Italy This Summer
Newport, RI (PRWeb) March 10, 2007 -- From frescoes and fabrics, vistas and vineyards, the details imbued in the distinctive Italian portfolio of Wimco, the Newport, RI, villa rental and hotel reservations company, play a big role in creating memorable vacations.
In addition to the recognized castle and farmhouse attributes of villas in Tuscany, Umbria and the Amalfi, Wimco also reserves villas in such want-to-be-there-too places as Lake Como and Sardinia.
Following is a glimpse of villas with available retinues including chefs, that sleep eight or more, and that are available in other playful Italian places. Rates reflect rounded-off weekly pricing beginning early June but not the higher rates of July/August.
Lake Como: Two adjacent estate villas (BRV SER / BRV MAR) with a total of 12 bedrooms, frescoes, Italian linens and antiques from the owner's collection also utilize the concierge services of Villa d'Este across the lake. Guest staff can be hosted in gatehouse apartments at an extra charge. Rates are up to $75,000 weekly for combo.
Lake Maggiore (Lombardy): Villa I Tassi (SAL TAS) was designed by a famous Italian architect in the 1970s to maximize a lakefront location and views of the Alps, Lake Maggiore's Isola Madre and the S. Caterina del Sasso promontory, where there is a hermitage dating to the 13th century. Sleeping up to eight, the rate is from $3,200.
Portofino: Villa L'Ulivo (SAL ULI), wrapping around an olive tree, overlooks the village, harbor and surrounding mountains. It is one of the very few properties available for rent in Portofino. It sleeps 12 from $8,000.
Cinque Terre: Villa Lagore (SAL LAG) offers five bedrooms, a short walk to a sandy beach and breathtaking panoramas of this region for the most part accessible only on foot or by train. The rate is from $5,000.
Sicily: Between the Mediterranean (a stone's throw away) and Mt. Etna, Villa Calipso (BRV CAL) sleeps 24 from $15,000. Also, Villa Olmo (BRV OLM) allows guests to enjoy an aristocratic lifestyle in a lush citrus valley near Taormina and an 18-hole golf course. It sleeps up to 14 for $24,000, with the option to use an additional four bedrooms at an extra rate.
Sardinia (near Costa Smeralda): Villa Cava Romana (HII CAV) in Porto Rotondo overlooks the bay of Cala di Volpe and is one of the region's most exclusive locales. It sleeps 11 with rates from $13,000. It is built atop a mine used by the ancient Romans. Both beach and port are within walking distance.
Torcello (Venice): This island on the northeastern side of the Venetian lagoon is famous for artichokes and Locanda Cipriani, a gastronomic star whose satellites include Hotel Cipriani and Harry's Bar. Here is Villa San Giovanni (SAL SGI) sleeping up to 12. Rates are from $11,000. Its name comes from a nearby Romanesque church, some of which ruins have been restored by the International Save Venice fund and which can still be admired in the garden. The villa was completely restored a few years ago and it is beautifully furnished with antiques.
Capri: Villa Faraglioni (BRV FAR) is minutes from the center of Capri and can sleep up to eight. The villa is decorated with impeccable taste and offers every modern amenity, combining interior luxury with al fresco beauty. Rates are available upon request.
Overall Wimco's Italian villa inventory numbers 170, with 100 of these in Umbria and Tuscany.

Investors at Brancaleone's The Sands and Palm Views regard now as the time to buy a limited supply of beautiful beachfront property in Calabria. Unlike many Mediterranean destinations, Calabria has strict regulations in place to limit the amount of development that takes place within 300 metres of the sea. Low prices, improvements to the local infrastructure and the current open availability of prime beachfront properties imply profitable returns for timely investors.
I Love Italian Food and Wine - The Umbria Region
Umbria lies smack dab in the middle of Italy. The countryside is unspoiled and dotted with medieval churches. Its fairly gentle terrain is composed of hills, valleys, and small mountains. Umbria is the only region of Italy with neither a seacoast nor a foreign border. But it has lakes, rivers, and even a waterfall. It is known as the green valley of Italy. In spite of this name, until a few decades ago Umbria kept losing population to the more highly industrial north. Its total population is about 830 thousand.
